Low muscle tone is a phrase used to describe muscles that are floppy – this can also be known as hypotonia. People with low muscle tone often have difficulty engaging in gross motor activities such as running, balancing and holding a set position for a period of time. People with low muscle tone typically need to use more effort to get their muscles working effectively when engaged in an activity.
